The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an orthodontic evaluation for children by age 7 . This allows us to identify patients with certain teeth and jaw discrepancies which require correction to ensure normal growth and development. At DeSimone Orthodontics we have the knowledge and experience to determine the correct time to start treatment. Our objective is to make sure your visits with us will be pleasant and informative. Your initial appointment will consist of an examination and a discussion of potential treatment options.
Crossbite can occur in the front and/or the sides of the mouth: One or more upper teeth bite on the inside of the lower teeth. This can occur with a single tooth or multiple teeth. Early correction of crossbite is recommended. If there is a single tooth crossbite, the tooth can be moved with braces into the correct position. In some cases, a retainer can be utilized. With multiple teeth in crossbite, the arch needs to be expanded with braces or other intra-oral appliances.
It’s no secret that straight, well-aligned teeth are an important part of a great smile. Unfortunately, the inconvenience associated with traditional braces keeps some people from straightening their teeth. For example, one of my 13 year old patients is a trumpet player in the jazz band and is concerned that braces could affect his embouchure. Other patients are unwilling to wear visible braces but desperate for a more attractive smile. For these patients and anyone who prefers an inconspicuous treatment option, Invisalign is an excellent choice.
