Early Treatment occurs before all permanent teeth are through and takes advantage of the growth spurt. Severe orthodontic problems if left untreated can interfere with normal jaw growth and tooth alignment. These problems include abnormal jaw growth, crossbites, severe crowding or spacing. Early correction can help prevent the need for extractions or surgery.

Many patients treated early will not require future orthodontics, others may benefit from future treatment. However, early interceptive treatment reduces the duration of future treatment and delivers a better long term result. Examples of early treatment are: space maintenance, palatal expansion, hedgear, reverse headgear, partial braces, and functional appliances.
